Hippopotamus is an abstract contemporary circus show about self-empowerment and acceptance. It focuses on shameful, hidden aspects of human personality. 

Good might keep on getting better, but how to coexist with the worst versions of ourselves wanting to join the party?

On stage, two characters take us through an emotional journey filled with acrobatics. Performance explores the collision of circus and digital interactive behavioural art. Allowing the space to lure the viewer trough visually stimulating scenography created by this dialog. Powerful exchange born from the supported soundscape is as immersive as it is diverse.

The multidisciplinary circus show Hippopotamus is inspired by the European bestseller "Hippopotamus in the Living Room" by Tommy Hellsten. It offers solutions and justifications for the troubling complexes that haunt people in adulthood and helps to explain distressing memories. The performance is focused on examining these problems through circus art that allows a performative visual approach. Each circus discipline is made of different elements, and each element conveys a clear emotional response in abstract form. Performers choose to place their bodies in realistic situations to create a dramaturgical narrative. The show consists of surrealistically real moments. 

Another layer of this performance is an interactive video game created especially for this performance. This allows the performers on stage and the video projection to have a dialogue and react to each other in real time. This creates an immersive new world projected on a massive screen in the middle of the stage. The performance is entwined together by an atmospheric electronic soundscape that creates emotional support for the acrobats in this visually stimulating world.
